Division by 10
Dividing a number by 10 is very easy! We can find the quotient and remainder just
by observing the dividend.
Look at the following examples.
Example 1. Divide 87 by 10. Example 2. Divide 257 by 10.
solution. T o solution. H T o
8 (Q) 2 5 (Q)
10 8 7 Dividend = 87, 10 2 5 7 Dividend = 257,
– 8 0 Quotient = 8, – 2 0
7 (R) Remainder = 7 5 7 Quotient = 25,
– 5 0 Remainder = 7
7 (R)
When a number is divided by 10, the digit in the ones place of the number is the
remainder and the number formed by the remaining digits is the quotient.
